Five for Friday!

Happy Friday, friends! Still 3 weeks left of school, but I am as happy as can be! I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for a little Five for Friday!

My life's motto right now is, "Hakuna Matata!" I was sure to wear my Lion King shirt today to express my mood, haha! This shirt is always a hit with my kiddos!
Good things are around the corner and summer is almost here! Hakuna Matata everyone!

For the past month, my students have been working on a STEM project-based learning unit on sandy beaches. We have been participating on many, many field experiences, doing a TON of research, and creating even created a sandy beach booklet to share with the public. As part of the STEM grant I am a part of, I was able to make this super-cool poster as a way to remember the steps to PBL and to showcase our hard work and learning experiences!

Math has been an absolute blast! We have been enjoying our geometry unit! Yesterday, my students couldn't get enough of a geometry scavenger hunt around the school! You can read more about our geometry scavenger hunt {HERE}

In a couple weeks, my lovely 2nd graders will be hosting a Poetry Cafe for their friends and family members. We have been writing poetry throughout the week. At the end of our poetry unit, each student will choose two of their favorite poems to make into a class poetry book. I hope this will be a lasting memory for my kiddos!

We are using the iPoetry unit by Hope King. My 2nd graders love the variety of poems they get to explore and create!

Look! One of my students even wrote a poem about me :-)

Lastly, some big new thing is around the corner! I can't spill the beans quite yet, but this picture is giving you a Big HUGE clue! I can't wait to share the news with all of my blog readers!

 And there you have it! How is your Friday going??? Are you on summer vacation yet? I still have 13 days left!! Can I make it!!??!!

Geometry Scavenger Hunt... Freebie!

Hello everyone! How I have missed you! I know I have been pretty MIA when it comes to blogging these past couple of months. Just know it is for a good reason! I promise I will fill everyone in... ExCiTiNg news is coming sOoN!

My lovely 2nd graders started geometry this week. Every teacher has there go-to activities, and I want to share one of mine with you!

After reviewing geometric shapes, I have my kiddos complete a scavenger hunt around the school looking for geometric shapes. They LOVE this! It is such a great way to help students recognize and identify geometric shapes. As our geometry unit continues, I give my students many opportunities to go on scavenger hunts to reinforce new geometry vocabulary. It's always a sure-fire hit!

After our scavenger hunt, we record our findings on an anchor chart to display in our classroom. We have this displayed in our math area. Creating this anchor chart helps students make shape analogies, too. If your a Marzano fan like I am, you know analogies are an important component of student engagement.  Oh, and please excuse my messy handwriting! I can't stand writing sideways!

If you would like your lovely students to do a geometry scavenger hunt all their own, click on picture below to snag a geometry scavenger hunt freebie! Enjoy!
