ORA Conference: Reading Rock Stars

Six years ago, I attended my first Oregon Reading Association conference. I was blown away by the quality of the presenters and came back to the teaching world refreshed and excited to try all of the meaningful strategies I learned. I remember sitting next to my friend and saying, "I'm going to be up there presenting some day." Little did I know that the "some day" would come sooner than I imagined.
There I was, standing in front of dedicated, passionate, and smart educators sharing one of my passions.. Integrating music in the classroom!

Are you ready for some resources and materials you can share with your students!?!

I was able to condense the Power Point into a PDF document to share. I know it's not as cute without the clip art (darn copyright rules!), but the content is the same! Click the picture below for a copy of my talking points.

The presentation would not have been the same without some AMAZING audience participation! I was blown away by the talent in the room. If you didn't already know, teachers are multi talented people. I mean, really, teachers can do it all!

After I shared ways to write songs for the classroom, teachers worked in groups to write songs that they could share with their students. The best part of the entire presentation was when teachers from the audience shared their songs with us! Prepare to get inspired, everyone! Did I mention teachers are talented!?!

I can't leave you without sharing some of the songs we wrote! Thank you to the talented teachers who shared their songs with me so that I can share them with others. I put together a song book with a compilation of songs shared at the session. My vision is to continue to add songs to this book so that educators all over the world can share songs with their students! You can find the Reading Rock Star book by clicking this link
